Job Summary
The Operating Room Technician (ORT) Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision, scheduling, training, and professional development of Operating Room Technicians across multiple perioperative locations,
This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operating room support services by maintaining workforce readiness, operating room preparedness, and adherence to regulatory and environment-of-care standards,
The ORT Supervisor plays a critical role in elevating ORT practice, ensuring equipment and supply readiness for all surgical cases, and supporting high-quality patient care through effective leadership, coordination, and collaboration with perioperative stakeholders,
Essential Functions
Provides direct supervision and leadership to Operating Room Technicians across all perioperative locations,
Develops and manages ORT staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for all shifts, service lines, and surgical sites,
Oversees onboarding, orientation, training, and continued education for ORTs,
Ensures compliance with required certifications, competencies, and regulatory education,
Maintains accountability for operating room preparedness, including availability and functionality of equipment and supplies for scheduled and emergent cases,
Oversees inventory management and collaborates with Supply Chain, SPD, and Biomedical Engineering on equipment maintenance and replacement,
Ensures compliance with Environment of Care standards, AORN guidelines, Joint Commission requirements, and hospital policies,
Conducts environmental rounds and addresses safety, equipment, and workflow concerns,
Serves as a clinical and operational resource to perioperative leadership, staff, surgeons, anesthesia, and support departments,
Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and efficiency initiatives,
Monitors performance metrics related to staffing, preparedness, and regulatory compliance,
Supports regulatory surveys, audits, and corrective action plans,
Performs other duties as assigned,
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of two years of Operating Room experience
Demonstrated knowledge of operating room workflows, equipment, procedures
Preferred
Previous supervisory or leadership experience
Experience in a large academic medical center or multi-site perioperative environment
Experience with scheduling and staffing systems
Certification Required
BLS certification (AHA)
Scheduling Requirements
Full-Time
Day shift with flexibility based on operational needs
Leadership on-call coverage as required
Physical Demands
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the operating room environment for extended periods
Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies in accordance with departmental requirements
Ability to respond to emergent situations in a fast-paced clinical setting
