Special Procedure Technologist – RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Technologist plays a critical role in patient care and operational excellence. Under the direct supervision of a physician, the Technologist prepares patients for procedures and explains the process, operates diagnostic equipment and cardiac catheterization tools, and assists physicians in performing special radiology angiographic and interventional procedures to support cardiac and vascular care.

A typical day for a Technologist may include:

  • Preparing patients for procedures and explaining the process.
  • Operating diagnostic equipment and cardiac catheterization tools.
  • Assisting physicians during angiographic and interventional procedures, to include scrubbing, circulating, or monitoring.
  • Setting up sterile trays and other equipment following aseptic technique, and handling of instruments.
  • Operating and monitoring equipment, and calling out equipment readings.
  • Positioning patients for rapid sequence filming during contrast media administration.
  • Scrubbing to assist with the passage of catheters and guidewires.
  • Alerting the physician to changes in patient condition.
  • Utilizing ICVS and PACS systems and entering accurately identified and labeled images of patients.
  • Retrieving old images and films, when necessary.
  • Operating fluoroscopy equipment and maintaining quality control.
  • Calibrating, maintaining, adjusting, and operating equipment, computer, and applications necessary to ensure a safe and accurate diagnostic and therapeutic procedure.
  • Reporting equipment failure or other problems to the appropriate support.
  • Performing other related duties incidental to the work therein.

To be considered for this Technologist opportunity:

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT) OR graduate of approved CVT school required.
  • EKG Certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association required.
  • Full Time availability to work three 12-hour shifts per week.
  • Required to take call, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital to meet required response time for on-call shifts.

Preferred, not required:

  • Minimum 2 years Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology scrubbing and hemodynamic monitoring experience.
  • National registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
  • NJ Certified X-Ray Technologist (NJ CXT).
  • Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
