Site Finance Officer, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center

The Site Finance Officer (SFO) plays a pivotal role as a trusted financial advisor to the hospital CEO and executive team, providing strategic guidance to help steer the future of the organization while overseeing day-to-day financial operations and maintaining a seamless connection with RWJBH System leadership. Taking an active, collaborative approach, the SFO will lead the annual budgeting process, design practical financial tracking tools, and fuel the hospital's growth by building strong partnerships with medical leadership and exploring innovative clinical services and emerging technologies. Additionally, this position provides strategic oversight for the Supply Chain, and Admitting/Registration departments, ensuring that core operational teams run efficiently, compliantly and directly support the hospital's commitment to exceptional patient care.

As the site Finance Officer, a typical day might include the following:

  • Morning Strategy & Leadership Alignment: Start the day by collaborating with senior leadership and department managers on strategic planning, reviewing short- and long-range goals, and evaluating five-year business plans to align hospital operations with its overarching mission and vision.
  • Financial Monitoring & Forecasting: Review daily revenue cycle metrics—such as billing efficiency, denials, and charge capture—and analyze upcoming forecasting needs to keep operations running within approved operating and capital budgets.
  • Operations & Margin Improvement: Partner directly with clinical and operational leaders to identify margin improvement opportunities, establish performance benchmarks, and adjust operational practices to hit key financial and service quality targets.
  • Cross-Departmental Guidance & Education: Work alongside site and service line teams to provide hands-on financial education, assist department heads with project management, and guide new initiatives from concept to execution.
  • Reporting, Compliance & Governance: Dedicate time to monthly financial statement preparation, monitor service line quality and financial metrics, and coordinate with specialized corporate teams to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory filing requirements.

This role might be a fit for you if:

  • Strategic Influence & Partnership: You thrive on serving as a key advisor to executive leadership, shaping long-term strategic plans, five-year business goals, and operational strategies that advance the organization's overarching mission.
  • Financial Stewardship & Planning: You excel at capital and operating budget management, proactive forecasting, and designing clear financial guardrails that keep departments financially healthy and accountable.
  • Operational Drive & Process Improvement: You enjoy leveraging metrics, benchmarks, and revenue cycle insights to streamline billing, reduce denials, optimize charge capture, and boost overall operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Mentorship: You naturally build strong relationships with clinical and operational department managers, empowering them with financial education, business planning guidance, and hands-on project management support.
  • Rigorous Governance & Regulatory Precision: You take pride in maintaining high compliance standards, ensuring precise monthly financial closes, and seamlessly coordinating complex regulatory and reporting requirements with state and federal entities.

To be considered for this opportunity, you should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, or possess an active CPA license with a Master’s Degree a plus. You will need eight to ten years of progressive experience in mid-level finance or accounting, backed by a strong foundational knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Qualified candidates must demonstrate deep expertise in short- and long-term budgeting, forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis, alongside proven hands-on skill utilizing predictive analytics to construct financial reports, statements, and forward-looking projections. Additionally, success in this role requires outstanding communication skills and executive presence, as you will engage in constant contact with the board of directors, finance committees, foundation boards, local and corporate administration, department leaders, auditors, vendors, and regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and local levels.
