Nursing Supervisor (RN) – RWJBarnabas Health

As an Assistant Director of Patient Care (RN), a typical day may include:  

  • The Nursing Supervisor represents hospital Administration and as such, serves as the delegated agent of the hospital administrative team and is invested with the authority of the same on the assigned shift.
  • Responsible for coordinating and evaluating management and clinical practice activities throughout the medical center.
  • Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments.
  • Is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
  • Assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available.
  • Maintains accurate current information re: patient placement availability, status of critical care units, potential discharges and hospital census.
  • Interprets legal aspects of hospital related issues and assures communication of incidents to Risk Management/Public Relations.
  • Maintains expertise and up-to-date knowledge of current nursing practice and acts as a clinical resource person.
  • Maintains the standards of nursing care which are evidence-based and outcome-driven and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department and are based on ethical principles which adhere to the ANA code of Ethics.
  • Directs operations when hospital is in a crisis mode, referring to admin-on-call as necessary.
  • Communicates with the Administrative Director/Department Head regarding issues of concern specific to employee performance/behavior.

  • To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification upon hire and ACLS required. Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum 2 years’ experience in Critical Care Nursing ICU is highly preferred. Must be comfortable with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. Full-time night shift 36 hours per week.
