Histology Technologist

In this role, you will work closely with Mohs surgeons and clinical staff to provide accurate, timely histologic preparations that support exceptional diagnostic and patient care outcomes.
As a Histology Technologist, you will play a vital role in preparing tissue specimens for pathological examination through embedding, sectioning, staining, immunohistochemistry, and quality assurance activities. You will perform complex histology procedures, maintain regulatory and quality standards, support continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with physicians and laboratory professionals to ensure diagnostic excellence.

A typical day for a Histology Technologist may include:
- Preparing tissue specimens for pathologic examination through embedding, microtomy, routine and special staining procedures, immunohistochemistry, and specimen labeling.
- Assisting pathologists and Mohs physicians with frozen section procedures as needed to support timely diagnoses.
- Preparing specimens for dispatch and referral to outside laboratories.
- Filing records, slides, blocks, and specimens in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Entering pathology procedures related to surgical specimens into laboratory information systems.
- Performing and documenting quality control measures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with laboratory standards.
- Conducting preventive maintenance and troubleshooting activities on histology equipment and instrumentation.
- Participating in departmental quality, efficiency, and performance improvement initiatives, including data collection, process evaluation, and implementation of improvements.
- Assisting in the development of new laboratory procedures and evaluating new instrumentation and technologies.
- Optimizing and validating new antibodies, protocols, and testing methodologies as needed.
- Participating in safety activities and training sessions while adhering to Standard Precautions and Hazardous Materials programs.
- Assuming supervisory responsibilities as requested to support departmental operations.
- Attending continuing education programs and seminars to maintain technical expertise and professional competency.
- Supporting additional departmental and laboratory duties as needed to ensure efficient workflow and exceptional service.

To be considered for this Histology Technologist opportunity, you must:
- Be a Certified Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
- Have a minimum of 3-5 years of Histology experience, including Mohs Micrographic Surgery experience.
- Demonstrate proficiency in tissue embedding, sectioning, staining, immunohistochemistry, and frozen section preparation.
- Possess the ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with Mohs physicians, the Practice Manager, and other clinical staff.
- Have experience performing quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting histology instrumentation.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
- Be committed to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory quality, safety, and compliance.
- Be able to stand for up to 8 hours per shift and lift up to 50 pounds as required.
