Job Overview:

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Director of Quality Resources, reporting to Nursing AVP, is responsible for the strategic oversight, coordination, and management of all hospital accreditation, regulatory compliance, and licensure activities. This role ensures organizational compliance with federal, state, and accrediting agency standards, including but not limited to Joint Commission (JC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), New Jersey Department of Health, and other regulatory bodies. The Director leads accreditation readiness efforts, coordinates surveys and inspections, develops compliance monitoring programs, and collaborates with hospital leadership to maintain continuous survey readiness and operational excellence. The position serves as a key resource for regulatory interpretation, policy development, performance improvement, and patient safety initiatives.

The Psychiatric Inpatient program at Trinitas Regional Medical Center (TRMC) is composed of six inpatient units with a total bed capacity of 110. The inpatient program admits patients five years of age or older who meet the criteria for inpatient admission. The program provides 24-hour-a-day, multidisciplinary, intensive treatment for patients with acute psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment, and patients with autism and intellectual disabilities with varying medical complexities. The inpatient behavioral health services offer people with acute psychiatric crises who urgently require a safe environment, a supportive and structured milieu, and intensive psychiatric and physiological therapeutic intervention. The treatment program combines these elements into a unique and effective treatment program.

As a Director of Quality Resources, a typical day may include:  

  • The Director of Quality Resources is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing the hospital's quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement programs.
  • Act as an integral part of the Nursing Leadership Team TRMC.
  • This position oversees initiatives designed to improve clinical outcomes, patient experience, operational efficiency and compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
  • This position collaborates with executive leadership, medical staff, nursing leadership and department managers to establish a culture of continuous quality improvement and patient-centered care.
  • The role is responsible for monitoring quality metrics, analyzing performance data, leading accreditation readiness efforts, supporting risk reduction initiatives, and ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices.
  • Responsible for multiple teams who support daily essential patient care.
  • Provides 24 hour accountability for patient care delivery for specific cost centers.
  • Ensures that quality age appropriate nursing care is delivered to all patients on his/her nursing unit in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital.
  • Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education.
  • Supports the philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of the Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, TJC requirements and other regulatory agencies.

To be considered for this Director of Quality Resources opportunity,  a Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Business Administration, or related field preferred is strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related healthcare field is required. At least five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare accreditation, healthcare quality, performance improvement, regulatory compliance, quality management, or hospital operations preferred. At least Three (3) year of Behavioral Health Nursing preferred. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills required. Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead organizational change initiatives required. Demonstrated experience coordinating accreditation surveys and regulatory inspections required. Formal training in healthcare regulatory standards and accreditation processes preferred. Experience with data analysis, quality metrics, benchmarking, and performance improvement tools required. Knowledge of PDSA or other process improvement methodologies preferred. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Joint Commission Professional (CJCP), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS). Healthcare Compliance Certification (CHC), Lean Six Sigma certification, or equivalent quality improvement certification preferred. Current and active RN or other healthcare professional license in the state of New Jersey preferred. Medical/Surgical and or Telemetry nursing experience is preferred, as is Psychiatric-Mental Health certifications and/or national nursing certifications, and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC.  In this position, you will work Full Time Day shift. This position may require every other weekend and holiday. The schedule during the week will vary depending on department needs.
