Social Worker MSW (Early Intervention)
At RWJBarnabas Health, our Early Intervention teams work collaboratively to support families navigating the social, emotional, and developmental impacts of childhood delays. As an essential member of our interdisciplinary teams, you will partner directly with parents, therapists, and educators to evaluate needs and develop Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP). We view our social workers as a critical component of the care plan, redefining the patient experience through compassion, resource navigation, and teamwork. We hope you are excited by the opportunity to deliver impactful care that empowers our youngest patients and their communities!
As a Social Worker MSW in Early Intervention, a typical day might include:
- Conducting Developmental Evaluations: Completing comprehensive clinical evaluations that accurately and efficiently identify the strengths and needs of children with delays in physical, cognitive, communication, social, emotional, and adaptive development.
- Creating & Implementing IFSPs: Formulating and implementing appropriate, measurable outcomes and strategies as part of the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP), incorporating recommendations from other team members and the family.
- Empowering Families: Providing direct services and supportive coaching to instruct parents, enhancing their ability to interact with their child and embed therapeutic strategies into daily routines.
- Collaborating Interdisciplinarily: Meeting with EI team members weekly to plan programs, problem-solve, discuss individual child progress, and prepare comprehensive transition plans when appropriate.
- Adapting Interventions: Selecting, adapting, and evaluating the effectiveness of activities by incorporating a variety of intervention models to meet family outcomes.
- Managing Clinical Records & Billing: Completing session notes during visits according to departmental rules, recording data for each child, and accurately documenting service time, frequencies, and required signatures for billing.
- Liaising with Community Partners: Serving as a liaison between families, Associate Directors, Children’s Specialized Hospital staff, local school district personnel, and private community agencies.
- Maintaining Productivity & Flexibility: Meeting productivity demands by seeking out alternate departmental opportunities during cancellations or low census, and maintaining a flexible schedule that reflects the needs of the families served.
This Role Might Be For You If:
- You are passionate about helping families resolve complex social, financial, and emotional barriers to health, recovery, and childhood development.
- You excel in collaborative environments and possess a sound background in normal child development and the therapeutic value of early intervention.
- You possess excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills, maintaining a high bar for timely, accurate clinical record-keeping.
- You are a proactive communicator who maintains ongoing contact with the office (via email, text, and phone) and responds quickly to information requests.
- You believe that true healing and successful life transitions are optimized when medical and educational expertise meets deep empathy and family advocacy.
To be considered for this opportunity, you must have:
