At RWJBarnabas Health, our behavioral health support teams operate at the heart of a compassionate, multidisciplinary environment dedicated to transforming the patient experience. Joining our team means becoming part of a premier academic healthcare network that values teamwork, excellence, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, safe clinical services across our communities. We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Social Worker (LSW) to provide comprehensive outpatient therapeutic interventions, case management, and intensive clinical support. If you are an empathetic advocate eager to combine evidence-based therapy with structured discharge planning and clinical mentorship, we invite you to build a rewarding career on our psychiatric care team.
A Typical Day
As a Licensed Social Worker within our partial hospital framework, a typical day might include the following:
- Clinical Assessment & Intake: Assessing patient needs through clinical interviews, chart/history reviews, and detailed psychosocial data sources to formulate comprehensive treatment plans.
- Evidence-Based Psychotherapy: Formulating and implementing advanced forms of psychotherapeutic interventions for individuals and families, including cognitive behavioral interventions, parental guidance, and specialized group therapies.
- Clinical Supervision & Mentorship: Mentoring and providing clinical supervision to frontline LSW staff members and rotating student interns in strict accordance with state board license requirements and field instructions.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partnering fluidly with physicians, nurses, and program directors during treatment team meetings to analyze data from standard diagnostic instruments and modify clinical approaches accordingly.
- Discharge Navigation & Continuity: Designing and implementing discharge plans, facilitating hospital-to-hospital transfers, and collaborating with external community social service agencies to ensure a seamless post-acute transition.
- Family Engagement & Education: Interpreting the nature of illnesses and prescribed courses of treatment to families, serving as a primary model for holding family conferences, and delivering continuing education programming.
- Workforce Development & Compliance: Planning, developing, and delivering relevant in-service training programs geared toward improving staff assessment practices, enhancing patient programming, and maintaining absolute regulatory documentation standards.
This Role Might Be For You If:
- You are deeply passionate about leading clinical teams, mentoring developing clinicians, and creating a safe, non-judgmental environment during outpatient stabilization.
- You excel under pressure, maintain an exceptional professional demeanor, and stay highly current on acute crisis intervention and psychiatric de-escalation practices.
- You take operational pride in documentation excellence, ensuring assessments, progress logs, and discharge metrics meet strict compliance guidelines.
- You thrive in a highly collaborative team environment alongside medical physicians, nursing executives, and supportive community social service agencies.
- You believe that true clinical healing and workplace retention are optimized through visibility, open communication, deep empathy, and shared professional development.
To Be Considered:
- Education: Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) or a closely related human services graduate field from an accredited institutional program is required.
- Licensure: An active state board license as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in good standing in the State of New Jersey is strictly required.
- Experience: Prior post-graduate clinical social work experience working directly within a behavioral health, substance abuse, or psychiatric treatment setting is required. Two (2) years of experience as an LSW is highly preferred.
