From initial diagnosis and treatment planning to active treatment, symptom management, follow-up, and survivorship, you'll help patients understand their care plans and confidently navigate each stage of treatment. Working closely with oncology physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, you'll contribute to a supportive outpatient environment focused on clinical excellence, continuity of care, and positive patient outcomes.
As a Cancer Clinic Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:
Performing comprehensive nursing assessments and obtaining relevant medical, surgical, medication, allergy, and treatment histories

Providing telephone triage to evaluate patient concerns, offer appropriate nursing guidance, and coordinate timely follow-up with the oncology care team
Collaborating with oncology physicians to implement individualized treatment plans and support patients throughout the cancer care continuum
Coordinating care between the oncology physician practice, infusion services, radiation oncology, surgery, diagnostic imaging, and other specialty services
Administering prescribed injections and providing nursing care for venous access devices in accordance with established clinical standards
Educating patients and families about cancer diagnoses, treatment plans, prescribed medications, and expected treatment outcomes
Providing medication education, including guidance on oral anticancer therapies, supportive medications, potential side effects, and medication management
Helping patients recognize and manage treatment-related symptoms while reinforcing when to contact their healthcare team or seek immediate medical attention
Supporting patients through treatment planning, active treatment, follow-up care, survivorship, and supportive oncology services
Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation, including nursing assessments, patient education, medication information, and care coordination activities
Partnering with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care, patient safety, and a positive outpatient oncology experience
