Job Overview:

The Adjunct Therapist participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic programming (i.e. assessments and ongoing monitoring towards patients' individualized goals, treatment planning, treatment implementation, professional development, and program development.) All methods of practice shall conform to written hospital policies and procedures and be carried out to the highest achievable level of competence. The Adjunct Therapist will demonstrate Barnabas Health's philosophy to Total Quality Management by actively applying that philosophy in all dealings with both internal and external customers.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (Degree must be from an accredited institution and be related to mental health rehabilitation/Creative Arts Therapy, including but not limited to Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy)
  • Experience working in Behavioral Health
  • Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree (Degree must be from an accredited institution and be related to mental health rehabilitation/Creative Arts Therapy, including but not limited to Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy)

Minimum requirements for specific disciplines are as follows:

Art Therapy Master s Degree in Art Therapy or with concentration in Art Therapy

Music Therapy Bachelor s Degree with MT-BC

Dance/Movement Therapy Master s Degree with R-DMT

Drama Therapy Master s Degree with RDT

Occupational Therapy Master s Degree with NJ state OT licensure

Recreation Therapy Bachelor s Degree with CTRS


Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift
  • Per Diem (schedule varies based on departmental needs)

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic Milieu that respects patient rights
  • Attends and participates in morning report, team meetings and case conferences
  • Ensures appropriate safety measures are applied during patient treatment sessions and maintains orderly work area
  • Orders/maintains supplies and equipment for Adjunctive therapy services
  • Participates in QA/QI studies. Participates actively in committees as requested/assigned
  • Participates in staff meetings as well as bi- weekly adjunctive therapists meetings
  • Provides direct therapeutic intervention via creative arts modalities to individuals and groups
  • Provides education/in-services to non- adjunctive therapy staff
  • Provides for own personal and professional growth by attending/ participating in various meetings, educational programs and continuing formal education
  • Provides group therapy/activities
  • Responsible for rotating weekend coverage with clinical staff to ensure adjunctive therapy services are available 7 days a week to patients and families
  • Responsible for verbal and written reporting, interpretation and collaboration regarding patient s diagnoses and treatment goals during hospitalization and upon discharge
  • Supervises and completes competency/ skills evaluations with non-adjunctive therapy staff providing divisional activities
  • Supervises orientation of new adjunctive therapy staff
