The New Graduate Nurse Residency program provides new nurse BSN graduates a safe, caring, supportive and robust learning environment for a new graduate nurse to gain clinical competency and achieve transition from student to professional. It includes a:

  • A preceptor and relationship-guided new graduate transition program.
  • Continuing education and ongoing enhancement of professional development.
  • An understanding and application of professional accountability and ethical practice inherent in the role of the registered nurse.
  • Recognition of the effects of skilled nursing practice on patient safety, quality and satisfaction.
  • Using a holistic and relationship-centered nursing practice framework of Jean Watson s Theory of Human Caring
  • Self-care highlighted as important to a safe and fulfilling nursing practice for nurse and patient.
  • Requirement to sign contractual payback agreement for work commitment of up to three (3) years after probation ends
  • Hired into the area of specialty
  • Variable Day or Night Shift

Requirements

  • BSN degree preferred
  • Graduation within the last year and/or less than 6-months of nursing practice
  • Current NJ RN Licensure required
  • BLS required
  • Demonstrated passion in the area of interest
  • Flexibility to attend orientation as determined by the program
  • GPA over 3.2
  • Leadership and desire to become involved in a Magnet or professional practice journey
  • Ability to attend focus groups and additional learning requirements for practice achievement.

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the healthcare system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics. The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and its inclusive of the principles of evidence based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experienced and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors. Is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served. Responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers. Responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement. The Registered Nurse as an individual practitioner and the interdisciplinary team manager, utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to addresses a specific patient s needs.
