Job Overview:

The Nutritionist provides nutrition assessments/education, assigns appropriate risks, and food packages for participants in the WIC Program.

The Trinitas Women's, Infants and Children Nutrition Program, or WIC, is a supplemental food and nutrition program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). WIC provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, health screenings, and access to health care and referrals to community organizations, breastfeeding education, and immunization information and voter registration.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum BA/BS Nutrition or related field

Preferred:

  • Bi-lingual skills in various languages

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-time

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of processing standards and the NJWIC Priority System
  • Ensures that individual and secondary contacts are provided according to policies and meets VENA requirements
  • Follows the high risk protocol and education contact requirements
  • Performs and accesses anthropometric measurements, immunizations and assesses the health screening data for women, infants and children
  • Interprets growth charts and weight
  • Provides blood work tests and operates equipment appropriately
  • Reviews immunization information according to policies set forth
  • Maintains current referral resource list
  • Adheres and may approve Special Formulas according to the Protocol and policies
  • Ensures that food package prescriptions are kept in the participant file within 24 hours
  • Follows doctor's prescriptions and educates the guardian of formula preparation
  • Follows the Annual Nutrition Education Plan
  • Conducts facilitated sessions; food demonstrations and offers online education or other
  • Ensures that individual and secondary contacts are provided according to policies for certification, mid-certs, high risk and group contacts
  • Prepares educational displays for the WIC environment
  • Participates in group events and prepares educational events and submits articles in the local newsletters
  • Assists with all aspects of certification including family registration, income verification, orientation and benefit issuance
  • Must be able to establish network connectivity at main site and remote sites
  • Contacts help desk for connectivity issues and errors in processing a client record
  • Assists in other related duties as required to ensure that services are not interrupted to include but not limited to benefits issuance, record retention, outreach events, reception area and phone/email coverage
  • Uses the language line when appropriate
  • Operates various office equipment, scales, digital rods, etc.
  • Interviews and updates in computer intake simultaneously
  • Attends required trainings provided by NJWIC and as required
  • Processing standards are acceptable for all services
  • Is aware of flow during clinic sessions and in the classroom to reduce waiting time
  • Manages remote services within time frames
  • Maintains a neat organized work area
  • Office environment is noisy and full of playful children
