Job Overview:

The polysomnographic technologist trainee works under the general supervision of the medical director with direct supervision of the clinical lab manager, sleep center director and a registered polysomnographic technologist to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. The trainee remains at this level for up to a year and is required to continue their education by doing independent study for sleep medicine and becoming eligible to sit for their registry in polysomnography using one of the 5 approved pathways. Once board eligible, the trainee must obtain a NJ state license as a polysomnography technician which is valid for up to two years, allowing the candidate to prepare for the registry exam.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equiv
  • BLS through the American Heart Association

Preferred:

  • Basic medical Terminology
  • previous CMA or CNA training
  • license as a polysomnography trainee-will be obtained upon hire

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-Time
  • Night Shift
  • 12-hour shifts (7:00pm-7:30am)
  • Flexibility of shifts during first 4 months of training (can work days or nights)

Essential Functions:

  • Provide standard and complex polysomnographic and related studies
  • Prepares the lab and equipment, making the necessary adjustments and calibrations
  • Maintain all equipment and supplies used in polysomnography and also perform all necessary preventative maintenance, while providing a clean and safe work environment
  • Learn the concepts and use of the HFF, LFF, TC, 60Hz, and all other filters as they pertain to acquisition of testing
  • Mask fittings
  • Performs other related duties as required by the department manager
