Job Overview:

Trinitas Regional Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, was established in 2000 through the consolidation of Elizabeth General Medical Center and St. Elizabeth Hospital. Situated in Elizabeth, NJ, the hospital serves a population across Union County, offering comprehensive healthcare across two campuses. With 554 beds, including a 120 bed long-term care facility and a 98 bed behavioral health facility, Trinitas annually treats nearly 20,000 inpatients, 70,000 emergency patients and accommodates over 450,000 outpatient visits. Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), is a modern, safe, treatment for certain severe psychiatric disorders. By causing a series of short, painless, brain seizures under general anesthesia, ECT is highly effective for those suffering from: Mania, Mixed bipolar states, Acute psychotic disorders, Catatonia (regardless of etiology), Mood and psychotic disorders, Severe major depression in patients who need a rapid, definitive response. ECT is also recommended for those who have been refractory to or intolerant of medication treatment. ECT is also effective as acute and maintenance treatment for relapse prevention. ECT treatment involves a series of treatments performed in a dedicated surgical suite with a team of health professionals, i.e., a psychiatrist, an anesthesiologist and nurses, who are experienced in ECT treatment and care, and is offered as an inpatient or outpatient treatment option; or an occasional overnight stay.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • ASN or Nursing Diploma
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred:

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • BLS through American Heart Association upon hire
  • ACLS Certification within 6 months of start date
  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License or active Compact Registered Nurse License with New Jersey endorsement

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift, 0 hours per week, 7a-3:30p
  • Monday Friday, every other weekend and holiday rotation

Essential Functions:

  • The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
  • The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
  • The Registered Nurse is an individual practitioner and the interdisciplinary team manager, utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs.
