Job Overview:

The Telemetry Unit is a 38-bed unit. This team-oriented unit provides a wide variety of Medical/Surgical and diagnostic services to a diverse cardiac population (i.e., congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, respiratory compromise and dysrhythmias). The skills learned here set the groundwork for advancement to critical care.

The Telemetry Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Completion of accredited program in medical assisting or related technical education course
  • Ability to examine heartbeat patterns, noting heartbeat irregularities in real time and ensuring the heart monitors are functioning correctly

Preferred:

  • Previous experience as a telemetry technician

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Part-Time

Essential Functions:

  • Delivers telemetry to intermediate units
  • Performs monitor hook-up/discharge
  • Patient preparation and teaching related to the monitor
