Job Description

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or delegate, assists in the planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area.

Additional Requirements

Alerts nursing staff to new medical orders and test/procedural results. Always identifies correct patient charts and reports before filing; verifies that all information is correct and takes corrective action when necessary (plate, face sheet, ID band, etc.). Ensures accuracy at all times. Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology; asks questions to clarify misunderstandings. Documents patients allergies in appropriate forms. Ensures a safe environment in aspects of care, equipment and treatment. Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times; maintains patient privacy at all times. Provides assistance to staff in the organized workflow of daily unit operations. Secures needed unit services as directed, (ie: Maintenance, Housekeeping, Security, IC.). Understands the importance of communication. Follows through on messages timely and to the appropriate staff member. Maintains communication with Admitting Department and cooperates with room assignments. Notifies nurse upon arrival of an admission and calls attending physician if admission orders are needed. Pass out new patient folders. Calls in consultations within appropriate time frame and documents in Cerner. Confers with RN regarding scheduling of patient activities and tests when necessary; consistently follows up on written and oral instructions; promptly reports matters requiring immediate nursing intervention. Assists nurses by picking up and delivering, specimens, medications, charts, requisitions, etc. to different departments and dumbwaiter as requested. Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues. Correctly complies with national patient safety goals and applicable policies as appropriate to scope of practice. Demonstrates the 4C s of Commitment, Compassion, Competence and Communication. Promotes patient satisfaction by courteous interaction with staff, physicians, patients and visitors. Responds to patient and visitor inquiries/comments, referring to appropriate personnel as indicated. Performs required clerical work relating to the admission, transfer and discharge of a patient. Hourly round and Answer phone calls and bells. Keeps unit supplied with all necessary stationery and other supplies at all times. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and equipment and orders supplies as necessary with cost awareness. Keep station orderly and neat. Prints Ticket to Ride. Assemble and gather medication info cards for nurses to give to patients. Communicate with Nurses re: tasks appearing on dashboard. Communicate with MD s regarding missing items (e.g. H&Ps, status orders, etc.). Daily Chart/Electronic Medical Record check: H&P, General Consent (print from 3M), Patient Portal, Patient Pharmacy Info, LOS or 1:1 order checks, Patient Status Order Check Keep paper lite chart orderly. Assemble / breakdown charts. Monitor Care Compass for new orders and ensure RN is aware of orders. Update wipe boards with daily assignment. Notifies appropriate departments of patient expirations. Discharge callbacks. Validate 724 process/computer. Performs other duties as assigned. Assist patients with accessing the patient portal.
