Job Overview:

The Unit Secretary assists the Director of Patient Care and the staff nurses by performing diversified secretarial duties. These duties include but are not limited to: filing, document storage and retrieval, reception, typing, routine record keeping, maintain supplies and equipment, maintaining monthly statistics.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • Computer Skills (ie: Word, Excel, Windows)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous unit secretary or medical office experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • N/A

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Evening shift, 3:00pm - 11:30pm
  • Part Time, 20 hours per week
  • Every third weekend required
  • Holiday rotation

Essential Functions:

  • Interacts with patients and families to help facilitate high quality patient care
  • Communicates and collaborates with hospital staff, physicians, and medical offices to develop and maintain procedural schedules
  • Answers phones promptly and relays information to appropriate person
  • Assembles and disassembles designated charts appropriately
  • Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues
  • Keeps medical records complete and in order
  • Maintains unit supplies at appropriate par levels
  • Maintains communication with the Bed Controller and cooperates with room assignments
  • Performs required clerical work relating to the admission, transfer and discharge
  • Reviews charts for needed forms. Attaches all diagnostic reports to chart.
