Job Overview:
Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel. Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties. Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients. Adheres to universal infection control practices. Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees. Transports the deceased to the morgue.

Required:
Previous patient transport experience preferred and must have excellent customer service skills.

Essential Functions:
- Maintains a level of attendance and punctuality to meet the demands of the job. Reports to work in uniform, ID badge, pager, etc. in accordance with departmental policy. Maintains the minimum department standard of 2.6 transport per hour
- Transporting Patients
- Advises the nurse, nurse designee or technician when they arrive on floor
- Introduces yourself to the patient.
- The transporter always checks the patient's ID band for the two identifiers before transporting the patient (Name and Date of Birth).
- Assists the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versa
- Use caution when rounding corners.
- Ensures brakes are used when transferring from stretcher and/or wheelchair
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information
- Maintains safety of patients
- Identifies appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and/or security
- Recognizes and reports patient discomfort, distress or emergency situations to the nurse or technician.
- Always follow infection control and handwashing precautions before, during and after transport.
