Overview
At Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, we are continuously elevating our perioperative readiness strategy to deliver seamless, patient-centered surgical experiences. We are expanding our Pre-Surgical Chart Review team with a clinically trained Registered Nurse who will strengthen clinical interpretation, streamline patient preparation, and optimize surgical day readiness.

Position Summary
In this role, the Registered Nurse will serve as the clinical anchor within our three-person chart coordination model. While the current team excels in administrative review, the increasing complexity of today’s preoperative requirements calls for clinical expertise. This RN will independently interpret labs, diagnostics, consult notes, and other presurgical clinical data to identify missing information, escalate concerns, and ensure patients meet all readiness requirements well before day-of-surgery.

You will be the bridge between data and decision making, ensuring accuracy, anticipating needs, and helping the surgical team move forward with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret clinical information including labs, imaging, consults, EKGs, and relevant diagnostic results to validate patient readiness before surgery.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, surgical schedulers, and the chart coordinator team to resolve gaps and obtain outstanding clinical items.
  • Escalate clinically significant findings to appropriate providers to avoid delays, rescheduling, or patient-day cancellations.
  • Document findings in accordance with RWJBH standards, regulatory requirements, and perioperative best practices.
  • Support efficient patient preparation workflows, ensuring a safe and timely pathway to surgery.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance pre-operative readiness and chart review processes.

Why This Role Matters
The addition of a Registered Nurse to this team strengthens clinical oversight and accelerates decision making. Having a licensed professional who can directly interpret clinical data ensures we are delivering the highest standard of safety, reduces day-of-surgery surprises, and protects both patient experience and OR productivity.

Qualifications

  • Required: Active NJ Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Required: Minimum 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience
  • Preferred: Perioperative, preadmission testing, ambulatory surgery, or acute care experience
  • Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
