Job Overview:
Trinitas Regional Medical Center boasts an immaculate Operating Room (OR) space with 10 Rooms to support a variety of patient care needs, both immediate and elective. Our top-of-the-line equipment includes a recovery area with three bays, a pre-op area, and a step-down area to complete the center's facilities. We have created 3 brand-new operating rooms featuring the latest equipment, allowing us to host the performance of just about any type of outpatient surgery a patient may need. Our multi-million-dollar investment in this new center will enable us in areas like oral and dental surgery, orthopedic surgery, urological surgery, plastic surgery, general surgery, podiatric surgery, and ENT surgery, among others.
Qualifications:
- Active New Jersey RN License or approved RN license required
- ASN or BSN required
- AHA BLS prior to start date required
- Operating Room experience is required; 2+ YOE scrubbing preferred
- CNOR within 2 years of hire Preferred

Essential Functions:
- Apply aseptic and sterile techniques to medical instruments and equipment before, during, and after surgery
- Alleviate patients concerns by answering questions and providing postoperative care instructions
- Assist surgeon during procedures with duties such as passing medical equipment and monitoring patients vital signs
- Prepare patients for surgery by disinfecting their skin at the operation site and positioning them on the operating table
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards
- Preparing the operating room and ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are sterile and ready for use
- Assisting in patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping techniques
- Anticipating the needs of the surgical team and providing necessary instruments and supplies in a timely manner
- Documenting all aspects of the surgical procedure accurately and comprehensively
- Coordinating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care
- Participating in continuing education and staying updated on the latest surgical techniques and best practices
- Advocating for patient safety and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards
- Serve as point of contact to other patient care providers;
- Participate in onboarding new staff;
- Provide performance feedback to management;
- Assess and develop quality control methods for department or organizational unit;
- Coordinate instrument needs including inventory management of sets;
- Assist technologists and other staff in resolving problems concerning equipment functioning, staff coverage, and interpretation of policies and procedures;
- Perform the duties of a Surgical Technologist or Operating Room Technicians
- Adapts procedures to meet the individual needs of the patient within reason and by delegation of the surgeon,
- Prepares the operating room in a timely and efficient manner with all instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment necessary for each individual procedure,
- Demonstrates competence and care in specimen handling,
- Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for the surgical procedure,
- Accurately completed surgical counts (sponge, instrument, needle, etc,) and follows facility protocol
- Checks all equipment pre-operatively to ensure functionality,
- Prepares the room within a reasonable time frame to ensure timely starts,
- Maintains an orderly and sterile back table for the pthe operating room prior to the start of any procedures
- Restocks supplies and equipment,
- Maintains responsibility for the care of surgical instruments and adheres to guidelines on transport from OR to decontamination room,
- Understands procedures for sterilization and can verbalize how to validate sterility,
- Knows responsibilities as they pertain to the reprocessing stages,
- Acquires, maintains, and utilizes all manufacturer instructions for use as they pertain to each instrument/item,
- Adheres to all policies and procedures of the center,
- Maintains knowledge of operating all applicable equipment,
- Performs required quality control through routine testing, cleaning, and monitoring to assure all equipment and instruments function properly,
- Inspects all instruments/equipment and packaging for cleanliness, defects, and or malfunctions,
- Assists in storing all sterilized items,
- Transports instrumentation to and from sterile storage area when needed,
- Ensure proper preventative maintenance is performed at required intervals,
- Interacts with Central Supply personnel when necessary to ensure there is service provided in a timely fashion to reduce any downtime or impact on patient care,
- Verbalizes, understands, and utilizes appropriate PPE and surgical attire based on work location,
- Picks all supplies for the day s cases in advance of the date of service to ensure availability,
- Maintains accurate tray sheets and inventory sheets,
- Maintains knowledge of Infection Control & OSHA standards of practice,
- Knowledge of centers Policies & Procedures,
- Other duties as assigned include inventory/expiration validation/stocking,
- Participate in On-Call Coverage
