Job Overview:
The Speech Pathologist provides assessment, treatment and care to patients who exhibit disorders related to articulation, fluency, language, voice and swallowing, ensuring that this is performed appropriate to the age and disorder of the patient served (neonate, child, adolescent and geriatric). Provides in-services to community and professional groups.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology,
- New Jersey Speech-Language Pathology License
- Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
- BLS Provider CPR certification through American Heart Association
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
- Acute Care experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- New Jersey Speech-Language Pathology License

- BLS Provider CPR certification through American Heart Association
Scheduling Requirements:
- Per Diem
Essential Functions:
- Assists in care, maintenance, and replenishment of department equipment, materials and forms
- Communicates findings, recommendations and progress to patient, family members and medical personnel
- Develops and implements individualized treatment programs; develops and maintains long and short term treatment objectives for each patient, and re-evaluates and modifies treatment program as warranted
- Integrates information from evaluation to determine presence of absence of specific communication or swallowing disorder(s) and appropriate recommendations
- Maintains department and hospital policies, procedures and objectives (refer to Department Policies and Procedures Manual and SBMC Employee Handbook)
- Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement programs
- Performs other duties as requested by department supervisor/manager
- Prepares written documentation as required (refer to Departmental Policies and Procedures Manual Documentation)
- Screens and Identifies patients who may benefit from speech therapy services and initiates physician referral
- Makes recommendations for services outside of discipline
- Selects and administers appropriate diagnostic tools and procedures
- Tailors supervision to student s needs, provides appropriate feedback, clarifies expectation
- Accommodates changes in schedule based upon department and patient needs
- Adheres to assigned work and coverage schedule, providing a minimum of 3 shifts per month if requested
