Job Overview:
The ECT Technician role functions under the direction of an ECT/ Registered Nurse and Psychiatry team, performs delegated patient care support activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of ECT patients. Performs a variety of tasks including cleaning of care areas, stocking and disposal of treatment items, preparation of equipment and maintaining assigned supplies. They ensure patient and staff safety during procedures under the supervision of medical professionals and assist in the maintenance of a calm environment throughout the treatment process. Their role also includes patient preparation and transport, with post-procedure monitoring as necessary.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in Electro Convulsive Therapy recommended.
- BLS and CPR within 6 months of date of hire required.
- Proven work experience as a Mental Health Worker.
- Proven work experience as a medical assistant/nursing assistant recommended
- Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a healthcare team.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain focus and attention to detail.

Essential Functions:
- Provides patient care as directed, within the nursing assistant scope of practice, in meeting the multidisciplinary care plan established for each patient.
- Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to established standards.
- Reports any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
- Provides for or assists patients with activities of daily living and fulfills designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care.
- Includes patient hygiene and changing linens.
- Provides one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
- Performs point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Assists with the transportation of patients throughout the ECT treatment process.
- Operates, problem solves and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment.
- Observing patients in the recovery area if needed.
- Maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients, expertly intervening in times of anxiousness, stress or agitation.
- Assists with bedside supplies set-up prior to each ECT treatment
- Assists with pre-treatment patient positioning and application of monitoring equipment as directed.
- Assists with post treatment removal and cleaning of treatment equipment as directed following each procedure.
- Providing re-assurance and support, and ensure all safety protocols are followed
- Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff as part of a multidisciplinary team and assisting the ECT treatment team as directed and necessary.
- Cleaning and preparing ECT related equipment after each procedure, cleaning and stocking ECT carts and treatment supplies daily.
