JOB SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse, Pediatric Rehabilitation provides compassionate, patient-centered rehabilitative nursing care to pediatric patients and their families within an inpatient rehabilitation setting. This role is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized nursing care plans designed to support recovery, optimize functional outcomes, and improve quality of life.

Working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, the RN promotes continuity of care and supports patients and families throughout the rehabilitation journey. The Registered Nurse serves as a clinical resource, participates in patient and family education, and may function as a Relief Charge Nurse to support operational and patient care needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey required
  • 0 to 6 months of nursing experience required
  • Minimum one (1) year pediatric nursing experience required for per diem positions
  • Pediatric and/or rehabilitative nursing experience preferred
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification preferred or eligibility required
  • For inpatient positions, PALS certification must be obtained within one year of hire if not already certified
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to effectively collaborate within interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Patient Care & Clinical Practice

  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care according to established hospital and departmental guidelines
  • Identify and assess pediatric patient and family healthcare needs accurately and timely
  • Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation care plans for pediatric patients with varying diagnoses and care needs
  • Evaluate patient responses to interventions and revise care plans accordingly
  • Deliver age-appropriate, evidence-based nursing care and interventions

Patient & Family Education

  • Assess patient and family learning needs and provide individualized education regarding care plans, treatment, and rehabilitation goals
  • Support patients and families throughout the rehabilitation process through ongoing communication and education
  • Promote understanding and participation in care planning and treatment decisions

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Function effectively within an interdisciplinary team structure to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Promote continuity of nursing care and interdisciplinary interventions across the care continuum
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes
  • Incorporate Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants into care delivery and appropriately delegate responsibilities

Leadership & Professional Practice

  • Serve as a role model and mentor for LPNs, nurse externs, nursing assistants, nursing students, and new staff members
  • Function as Relief Charge Nurse as assigned
  • Keep nursing leadership informed of patient care needs, issues, and concerns
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and effective problem-solving skills in clinical situations
  • Seek guidance and utilize available resources when appropriate

  • Participate in self-evaluation and identify opportunities for ongoing professional growth and learning
  • Demonstrate accountability for professional practice and maintain high standards of ethical conduct
  • Support and comply with hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care
  • Foster a culturally sensitive and family-centered environment that respects patient rights and diversity

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, visitors, and interdisciplinary staff members
  • Exposure to medications, chemicals, and medical equipment
  • Requires physical stamina and ability to safely lift, move, and reposition patients and objects weighing 35 pounds or greater
  • Work environment includes pediatric inpatient care areas
