JOB SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse, Pediatric Rehabilitation provides compassionate, rehabilitative nursing care to pediatric patients and their families in an inpatient setting. This role is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans that promote recovery, maximize functional outcomes, and support patients through the rehabilitation process.

Working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care team, the Registered Nurse promotes continuity of care and delivers patient- and family-centered services while maintaining high standards of clinical excellence. This position may also function as a Relief Charge Nurse and serves as a mentor and resource to staff, students, and support personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey required
  • 0 to 6 months of nursing experience required
  • Minimum one (1) year pediatric nursing experience required for per diem positions
  • Pediatric and/or rehabilitative nursing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required or eligibility to obtain
  • For inpatient positions, PALS certification must be obtained within one year of hire if not already certified

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Patient Care & Clinical Practice

  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care within established hospital and departmental guidelines
  • Recognize and accurately identify pediatric patient and family healthcare needs
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized rehabilitation plans for patients with a variety of clinical needs and diagnoses
  • Monitor patient responses and revise care plans appropriately based on outcomes and patient progress
  • Deliver safe, effective, evidence-based nursing care to pediatric patients

Patient & Family Education

  • Assess patient and family educational needs and provide individualized teaching and support
  • Develop and implement patient and family education plans within established timeframes
  • Promote understanding of treatment plans, rehabilitation goals, and ongoing care needs

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Function effectively within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team structure
  • Promote continuity of nursing care and collaborative interventions across the care continuum
  • Incorporate Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants into achievement of short-term patient goals and delegate appropriately
  • Maintain ongoing communication with nursing leadership regarding patient care needs and concerns

Leadership & Professional Practice

  • Serve as a mentor, role model, and resource for LPNs, nurse externs, nursing assistants, nursing students, and newly hired staff
  • Function as Relief Charge Nurse as assigned
  • Demonstrate effective clinical judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Seek guidance from clinical leadership and resources when appropriate
  • Support and comply with hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care

  • Participate in self-evaluation and identify opportunities for ongoing professional growth and learning
  • Demonstrate accountability for professional practice and ethical conduct
  • Promote a culturally and religiously sensitive care environment that respects patient and family rights
  • Foster a patient-centered approach that supports quality care and positive outcome

WORKING CONDITIONS / ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Frequent interaction with pediatric patients, families, visitors, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Work environment includes inpatient pediatric rehabilitation care settings
  • Requires physical stamina with the ability to safely lift, reposition, and assist patients and equipment as needed
  • Exposure to medications, medical equipment, and healthcare environments may occur
