Job Overview

The Therapist II provides comprehensive clinical assessments, crisis interventions, therapeutic treatment, and discharge planning services for adult psychiatric patients and their families within the specialized Eating Disorders Outpatient program at RWJUH Somerset (SOM). Operating under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, this professional delivers individual, group, and family therapy while ensuring strict regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and utilization management. Additionally, this role actively engages in community outreach, professional associations, and referral marketing activities to expand and support the program's growth.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Educational Track (One of the following matches):
    • Master’s degree from an accredited school of Social Work (MSW).
    • Master’s degree in Counseling from an accredited school.
    • PhD from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of job-related clinical experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and technical communication skills (including basic word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation applications).
  • Solid foundation in age-specific care guidelines across the lifespan, particularly interpreting data relative to adult psychiatric and eating disorder health requirements.

Preferred:

  • Active New Jersey State Licensure (LCSW or LPC preferred; LSW or LAC acceptable depending on clinical experience).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of dedicated clinical experience in a mental health or outpatient eating disorders setting.
  • Proven experience driving community marketing, clinical referral development, and external stakeholder relationships.

Scheduling Requirements

  • Full-Time (FT) - Day

Essential Functions

  • Clinical Therapy: Conducts high-quality individual, group, and family therapy sessions for crisis intervention, ongoing treatment, clinical progress evaluations, and future discharge determinations.
  • Documentation & Billing: Completes and maintains meticulous electronic health records, including psychosocial assessments, outcome studies, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries; submits billing charges accurately and on time.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Participates actively in scheduled treatment rounds; coordinates care with team members to monitor healthcare resources, handles case management, and reviews authorizations with insurance companies.
  • Referral Marketing & Outreach: Actively markets the Eating Disorder Program to internal and external partners; manages regular updates to referral sources, sends professional thank-you communications, and leads community education sessions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adheres strictly to all ethical, legal, and confidentiality guidelines; ensures full compliance with corporate guidelines and standards set by the New Jersey Department of Health (NJSDOH) and The Joint Commission (JCAHO).
  • Environment of Care: Demonstrates full awareness of hospital safety, infection control, standard precautions, and incident reporting procedures to keep a clean, safe, and welcoming clinical space.
