The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Summary and Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for blood products collection and processing of blood products using automated and non-automated techniques for in-house and mobile drive operations in the state,
  • Provide medical screening of blood donors,
  • Observes donors for changes in condition and intervene appropriately,
  • Assists in blood donor registration and recruitment activities in the community,
  • Drives to various mobile blood drive sites in the state,
  • Greets patients /donors in reception and/or donor room area in a pleasant and helpful manner,
  • Determines and assists in completion of functions such as verification of appointment time and type, scheduling of necessary appointments, and assuring completeness and accuracy of all patient paperwork,
  • Is able to register donors,
  • Determines suitability of apheresis and blood donors, autologous donors and patients by screening for history and physical in accordance with established eligibility standards,
  • Performs interview confidentially and accurately,
  • Accurately measures and records results of medical history and physical,
  • Reviews donor information in the BCIS and on downtime cards when necessary to insure complete and accurate records,
  • Observes donor closely for any signs or behavior which will affect suitability or donation outcome,
  • Collects blood and blood components from suitable donors and patients using automated and non-automated procedures,
  • Adheres to all FDA, NJDOH, AABB, and Blood Services guidelines to insure patient/donor safety and product acceptability,
  • Projects professional and pleasant manner to make the patient/donor relaxed and at ease,
  • Monitors patients and donors carefully and is able to recognize and intervene in any unstable situation or donor reaction,
  • Performs duties as assigned per departmental needs,

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent, Phlebotomy training
