The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Occupational Therapist provides clinical care to pediatric patients with physical, developmental, and perceptual-cognitive disabilities to improve their functional adaptation to the environment. Working within a therapy suite, you will evaluate performance disruptions and design targeted treatment plans to minimize the disabling effects of these conditions. This role offers the opportunity to guide patient rehabilitation while interacting closely with patients, families, and other hospital personnel.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current, valid Occupational Therapist License issued by the State of New Jersey.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification.
  • Twelve-week pediatric affiliation or documented pediatric clinical experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of developmental theory, physical/perceptual-cognitive disabilities, and the psychosocial aspects of functional adaptation.
  • Ability to evaluate disruptions in patient performance and independently execute clinical treatment plans.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills to interact with families and medical staff.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with others using exceptional professional tact and judgment.
  • Physical stamina required for heavy lifting and the therapeutic handling of patients.

Preferred:

  • Satisfactory completion and maintenance of registration with the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT).
  • Previous experience working in an outpatient pediatric setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuously improving clinical skill levels and adopting feedback.

Essential Functions:

  • Selects, administers, and interprets specialized assessment tools—including clinical histories, screenings, observations, and evaluations—appropriate to the patient's condition.
  • Identifies, prioritizes, and establishes time-realistic, functional goals for the remediation, compensation, adaptation, or prevention of patient deficits.
  • Selects, utilizes, and continuously evaluates the effectiveness of clinical treatment methods in alignment with competency expectations.
  • Applies principles of activity analysis to grade physical, perceptual-cognitive, and psychosocial demands, creating an optimal match between the family's capabilities and environmental demands.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, healthcare teams, referring physicians, and community contacts using both formal and informal oral and written formats.
  • Formulates and executes appropriate discharge recommendations based on the child's long-term prognosis, family role expectations, and knowledge of community resources.
  • Meets minimum annual expected patient volumes and maintains all compliance and documentation standards.
  • Assists in training and mentoring staff, COTAs, aides, and students, providing direct supervision to aides or volunteers as required.
  • Takes proactive responsibility for seeking clinical supervision or consultation, contributing to department improvement plans, and utilizing performance feedback.
