The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overviews:

As a Communications Operator, you are usually the first point of contact for anyone who phones a hospital. You will operate switchboard equipment to receive calls and pass them on to the correct person or department.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate from approved EKG course
  • Other certificates for specialty area (EEG/ EMG, Stress Testing) preferred
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift: Day
  • Monday-Friday with every other weekend and holiday
  • Full Time

Essential Functions:

  • Channel all incoming calls within (3) rings and provides direct numbers to callers as required
  • Responds to emergency calls following established protocol
  • Informs proper telephone repair service of any problems reported by hospital personnel as soon as possible. Maintains a log of any reported problems
  • Maintains logs recording the digital alarm activity, any fire related activity or nonexclusive activity, and any Codes (5050). Also logs any unusual daily activity of note
  • Provides continual update of departmental telephone directory for staff and patients as necessary in order to maintain a complete and accurate listing
  • Follow established departmental quality assurance program, safety environmental and infection control standards
  • Maintains required records and statistics as directed
  • Assists in Maintenance, care and exchange of department equipment and supplies
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Attends in-service and educational programs as directed
