Job Overview:
Through the years, Trinitas Regional Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to women and children with a spacious 20-bed Mother Baby postpartum unit, modern Labor and Delivery and Recovery rooms, and a Level II Special Care Nursery. Nurses in the mother and baby unit care for mothers and newborns. Nurses caring for the new mother demonstrate knowledge of normal post-partum physiological and psychological maternal adaptation.
Qualifications:
Required:
- At least 2 years of mother-baby nursing experience
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Flexibility and adaptability and must be willing to meet the needs of the unit
- Proficient computer skills
- BLS from the American Heart Association
- ASN or Nursing Diploma from an accredited Nursing Program
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program NRP certification to be obtained by the completion of the orientation period
- Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement
Preferred:
- BSN Degree
Scheduling Requirements:
- Per Diem
- Nights
Essential Functions:
- Assesses maternal-newborn attachment and intervenes if negative behaviors are noted
- Fully supports breast-feeding by providing consistent education; discouraging the use of supplements and pacifiers; providing encouragement and utilizing resources for difficult feeding situations
- Maintains NRP certification
- Provides measures to decrease the risk of infant abduction and demonstrates appropriate response in actual and potential situations
- Assures newborn identification is present according to policy
- Nurses caring for the newborn demonstrate knowledge of the expected physiological changes during the newborn transitional period
- Maintains a thermoneutral environment for the newborn
- Assures newborn identification is present according to policy
- Obtains blood specimens via heel stick, as ordered, in the correct procedure and location
- Assists physician with circumcision, including assurance of informed consent and newborn comfort measures
