Job Overview
The Child/Adolescent Psych Outpatient Specialist serves as the central point of contact for patient entry, intake coordination, and administrative support within the outpatient behavioral health department. This role is responsible for executing initial phone and walk-in screenings, securing insurance verifications, and coordinating essential care logistics for children, adolescents, and their families. Operating as a critical liaison between multi-disciplinary clinical staff and external community agencies, this professional ensures a seamless, supportive, and culturally competent onboarding experience into treatment.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bilingual Fluency: Must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish with the ability to communicate and complete patient intake screenings effectively in both languages.
- Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Administrative Skills: Proven experience managing care verification of insurance benefits, authorization tracking, and data entry using spreadsheets.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to handle constant telephone coverage, front-desk operations, and multi-agency collaboration.
Preferred:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience working within a behavioral health setting, clinical scheduling, or medical billing/registration environment.

Essential Functions
- Intake & Screening Coordination: Receives all internal and external referrals, completes initial phone and walk-in screenings, and schedules intake appointments for the outpatient clinic.
- Data & Referral Management: Records all pertinent clinical and demographic data according to hospital standards, maintaining comprehensive tracking spreadsheets of all offered and scheduled appointments.
- Patient Engagement & Follow-Up: Conducts proactive follow-up calls for missed intake appointments and assists families with rescheduling to ensure continuity of care.
- Registration & Compliance: Coordinates the patient registration process, verifying that all mandatory clinical consents and authorizations are fully obtained prior to the start of treatment.
- Insurance & Authorization Verification: Manages managed care verification of benefits and treatment authorizations, actively following up on insurance billing-related issues.
- Operational & Front Desk Support: Provides reliable telephone coverage for clinic areas, supports administrative staff, and covers the front reception desk as assigned.
- Community Liaison: Acts as a dedicated professional liaison to community agencies, including local school systems, pediatricians, and external social service organizations.
