Job Overview:

We are seeking a Full Time Medical Transcriptionist for our Monmouth Medical Center location. The Medical Transcriptionist provides essential pre-analytical and administrative support within the Anatomic Pathology (AP) department. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of operations by assisting with preparation, accurate labeling, tracking, and internal delivery of tissue specimens destined for laboratory analysis.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• 2+ years of experience in histology, anatomic pathology support, tissue handling, or laboratory specimen preparation roles.
• Basic knowledge of histology and anatomic pathology workflows and tissue preparation processes.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and specimen handling requirements.
• Intermediate attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to follow specialized laboratory protocols.
• Familiarity with laboratory/medical terminology.
• Organizational and specimen tracking skills.

Scheduling Requirements:

• Full Time (40 hours).
• Monday – Friday, 9am – 530pm schedule.
• Rotating weekends and holidays required.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with clerical work like answering phone calls, directing phone calls and providing support to AP and supervisory staff.
• Assists with tissue preparation activities such as ordering, labelling and accessioning.
• Receives, verifies, and labels specimens according to established protocols.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of specimens to maintain integrity.
• Transports specimens within the laboratory or to designated testing areas.
• Identifies and escalates specimen discrepancies or issues.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and ensures work areas are stocked.
• Supports slide and block organization for pathologist review.
• Sends out specimens to reference laboratories.
• Ensures proper storage and handling of tissue specimens.
• Maintains cleanliness of lab equipment and work areas.
• Adheres to RWJBH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
