Recovery Specialist – RWJBarnabas Health

As a Recovery Specialist, you will provide non-clinical individual and group support to develop a recovery care plan, educate individuals on recovery models and cultivate supportive tools to enhance recovery. The Recovery Specialist will work closely with the individual’s multidisciplinary care team and community-based organizations to connect patients with additional recovery support services that best fit their needs. A typical day for a Recovery Specialist may include:
- Engaging clients and patients with non-clinical support, building trust and connection by sharing your own lived experience with recovery
- Conducting client and patient screenings to gather relevant history and documenting information within the electronic health record in accordance with IFPR guidelines
- Creating individualized recovery support plans based on patient needs, screening results, and social determinants of health
- Connecting clients and patients with non-clinical, SDOH-related services and community resources that support their recovery
- Serving as a positive role model by establishing and maintaining supportive relationships with clients, patients, and their families
- Educating individuals on how to navigate treatment, social services, and recovery support systems, while coordinating with IFPR Patient Navigators and hospital staff to ensure the navigation to treatment is successful
- Empowering individuals to make self-determined, self-directed choices about their recovery pathway
- Facilitating recovery support meetings and groups designed to engage, motivate, and empower participants
- Completing timely, accurate documentation and reporting to support grant compliance and continuity of care

To be considered for this Recovery Specialist opportunity, you are passionate about serving as a role model, advocate, and motivator for individuals navigating recovery from substance-use disorder.
- This position offers a full-time schedule of three 12-hour day shifts per week.
- You hold a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and have a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the guiding principles of recovery that help individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their full potential.
- You are able to travel within a 60-mile radius of the assigned hospital for cross coverage when needed.
- You hold or are able to obtain, within 6 months of employment, a Nationally Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) certification through the NAADAC organization.
- Bilingual ability, previous experience as a Recovery Specialist or in a related role, and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook are preferred.
