Lead Technician (Cardiac Cath Lab)
Our Lead Cardiac Cath Lab Technicians work collaboratively to promote optimal patient safety and deliver high-quality clinical care across our advanced cardiac suites. By providing continuous technical expertise during complex procedures, precise patient tracking, and proactive staff oversight, our leads ensure our most vulnerable patients receive constant vigilance and clinical support. A Typical Day:
- Providing technical expertise during pre and post cardiac catheterization procedures, performing phlebotomy, conducting EKGs, and monitoring blood sugars under the direct supervision of an RN.
- Managing the daily unit workflow and patient throughput, ensuring the safe, efficient transport and escorting of hospital patients to and from the Cardiac Cath Lab and ancillary departments.
- Coordinating real-time scheduling adjustments by arranging pre-admission testing, procedure dates, follow-up appointments, and managing cross-department testing (U/S, MRI, CT Scans).
- Overseeing shift-to-shift operations by ensuring comprehensive chart preparation, medical record transcription, and detailed filing are completed for all pre-catheterization cases.
- Accurately entering laboratory and radiology orders into the EPIC electronic medical record system, tracking down diagnostic results, and documenting communication with the healthcare team.
- Training and precepting junior technicians in lab workflows, clinical assistance standards, proper patient room preparation, and the accurate completion of patient forms.
- Auditing technician work efforts, tracking statistical information, and maintaining performance data to support leadership evaluations and departmental performance improvement projects.
- Documenting communication with nursing staff and physicians clearly to facilitate rapid clinical response and support flawless handoff processes.
- Troubleshooting inventory and equipment needs, tracking asset par levels, and proactively ordering and restocking clinical supplies to maintain a clean, sterile environment.
- Inventorying necessary clinical documentation forms, processing venipuncture specimens under strict Standard Precautions, and ensuring rapid, timely delivery to the main laboratory.

To be considered:
- High school graduate or equivalent qualification is required.
- Education and experience in a clinical setting is required (e.g., Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, LPN, or specialized Cath Lab training).
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs and a designated telemetry class or NetLearning module.
- Demonstrated ability to lead workflows, mentor peers, track complex schedules, and accurately communicate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Computer proficiency is required, including operational knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic medical record systems like EPIC.
