The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The OR Secretary is responsible for handling all Operating Room records, charges, maintaining statistics, and routing various records to the appropriate departments within the hospital. He/she assists the Nurse Manager or designee in running of the schedule.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Proficient typing skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Preferred:

  • Graduate of an accredited business school

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day shift, 7:00am-12:30pm
  • Every other weekend
  • Per Diem

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately collects and files operative records into binders as part of the OR permanent record.
  • Accurately prepares daily schedules with correct numbers for each surgical room and their personnel.
  • Accurately prepares master board with patient send for slips, calls floors to determine if patients are ready for surgery, and requests for patients according to times scheduled.
  • Consistently follows up on written and oral instructions; promptly reports mattes requiring immediate nursing intervention.
  • Cooperative and responsible interaction with patients, visitors, co-workers, nurses and physicians.

  • Delivers requisitions, specimens, etc. to various departments accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology; asks questions to clarify misunderstandings.
  • Distributes all interdepartmental mail to the appropriate departments.
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with co-workers and other departments in order to foster appropriate communications necessary for the delivery of good patient care.

  • Inputs information into computer system for patients’ charges.
  • Maintains a well-supplied, organized work station. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and equipment and orders supplies as necessary with cost awareness.
  • Responds immediately and appropriately to inquiries, intercom and telephone calls.
