Physical Therapist Aide – RWJBarnabas Health

Our Physical Therapist Aides work collaboratively with physical therapists, patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to support the restoration of function, improvement of mobility, and enhancement of patient safety. Through diligent maintenance of the clinical environment, equipment preparation, and direct assistance during patient care, our aides ensure a seamless, clean, and efficient rehabilitation experience. We view our Physical Therapist Aides as an essential part of the patient care team and recognize the meaningful impact they have on clinic workflow and patient comfort. A Typical Day

As a Physical Therapist Aide, a typical day might include the following:

  • Maintaining strict compliance with general housekeeping protocols and infection prevention standards across the department.
  • Preparing and maintaining the treatment area, ensuring all tables, mats, and equipment are clean and ready for use.
  • Retrieving and setting up specialized equipment, including hot packs, cold packs, and electrical stimulation devices.
  • Assisting physical therapists directly with patient care, including helping patients transfer safely onto and off of treatment tables and exercise equipment.
  • Managing clerical needs of the department by answering phones, taking accurate messages, and supporting front-desk workflows.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team to ensure a welcoming environment.
  • Managing supply inventory in treatment areas and reporting any equipment maintenance needs to leadership.

To Be Considered

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certification: BLS Provider Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Experience: Previous clinical or customer service experience is preferred; basic knowledge of anatomy and muscle movement terminology is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to safely assist with patient physical transfers, and comfort with basic office clerical tasks.
  • Schedule: Per Diem schedule with the flexibility to work days and evenings, Monday through Friday, including opportunities for picking up extra hours as available across any RWJ Somerset Sports Physical Therapy clinic locations.
