Director of Radiation Oncology – RWJBarnabas Health
At RWJBarnabas Health, the Director of Radiation Oncology plays a critical role in leading the strategic, operational, and clinical success of the radiation oncology program. This leader partners with physicians, clinical teams, and executive leadership to ensure exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and continued program growth while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and quality.
A typical day for a Director may include:
- Coordinating and directing the daily activities of the Radiation Oncology staff to assure the accuracy of technical services and efficiency of the overall operation,
- Planning and directing the programs and activities for the Department; establishing short and long-range goals and objectives.
- Planning and directing the administrative, technical and educational activities of the Radiation Therapy Department
- Establishing and maintaining standard of performance which governs all department techniques and procedures
- Developing and monitoring the operating and capital budgets for the department
- Establishing and maintains all department policies and procedures
- Developing technical and/or clinical standards of performance for all department techniques and procedures
- Standardizing processes related to treatment techniques and workflows across both campuses focusing of safety, quality and efficiency,
- Ensuring compliance to hospital policies and guidelines of regulatory agencies included but not limited to TJC and DOH,
- Annually assessing departmental operating and capital needs and submits budget requests accordingly
- Controlling budgeted expenses and proactively manages budget variances,
- Maximizing efficiency and quality through appropriate resource utilization,
- Able to project and appropriately staff the department to effectively function to demand
- Preparing a variety of reports and maintaining various records and statistics pertaining to departmental operations,
- Monitoring patient satisfaction scores and identifying opportunities to optimize patient satisfaction in all areas of the department,
- Improving processes and services to meet and exceed patient needs
- Optimizing employee satisfaction through utilization of sound employee relationship practices and maintains high level of visibility and accessibility,
- Maintaining positive relationships with all patients, visitors, physicians, employees and vendors and the extended medical community
- Recommending personnel transactions including salary changes, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions and terminations,
- Conducting annual performance appraisals,
- Responsible for identifying and offering individual staff appropriate training and/or educational opportunities that optimize performance and satisfaction,
- Utilizing technical resources across campuses as needed,
- Following sound employee retention techniques,
- Developing and supporting staff education and cross-training on all procedures and radiation modalities,
- Demonstrating cultural competency and ability to maintain a diverse workflow,
- Taking a leadership role in all departmental performance improvement activities,
- Developing and implementing performance improvement initiatives in the departments through collaboration with system Radiation Oncology leaders; Engaging staff and MD in such initiatives
- Keeps abreast of all new or upgraded equipment hardware and software and engages staff to promote smooth workflows,
- Overseeing EMR set up for revenue optimization and documentation compliance,
- Providing input for template formation to ensure appropriate charge capture,
- Staying abreast of all national changes impacting radiation oncology charges and implements such changes in a timely manner,
- Has responsibility for all administrative, technical and educational programs and activities of the department,
- Designing and establishing appropriate departmental education programs and radiation safety training for all radiation modalities,
- Ensuring frequency of radiation safety education is compliant with accrediting body,

To be considered for this Director opportunity:
- Bachelor’s degree
- BLS through American Heart Association
- ARRT/NJDEP license required
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience required in radiation oncology as Chief Therapist or higher role
Preferred, not required:
- Master’s degree
