Pharmacist I – RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Pharmacist I plays a critical role in comprehensive patient care and operational excellence. Operating with a high level of independence, they ensure that medications and IV admixtures are prepared, dispensed, and monitored in a safe and rational manner according to legal, regulatory, and hospital standards. They are responsible for evaluating medical orders, documenting clinical metrics, maintaining regulatory compliance, and delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care to all patient age groups, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and neonatal patients.

A typical day for a Pharmacist I may include:

  • Prepares, dispenses, and monitors both the prescribing and overall clinical effectiveness of all medications and IV admixtures
  • Delivers advanced clinical services to assigned specialty units to optimize drug efficacy and patient health outcomes
  • Utilizes a high level of independent decision-making to evaluate complex medical orders and resolve pharmaceutical issues
  • Applies deep familiarity with all phases of hospital pharmacy practice to maintain seamless, efficient daily workflows
  • Evaluates critical medication issues like drug interactions and dosing across diverse populations, from neonatal to geriatric patients
  • Collaborates professionally with physicians, nurses, and the interdisciplinary care team regarding patient medication therapies
  • Utilizes downtime efficiently to maintain clinical awareness, update documentation, and support pharmacy operations
  • Adheres strictly to institutional policies, safety protocols, and state regulations to ensure complete medication security

To be considered for this Pharmacist I opportunity:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
  • Must hold and maintain an active Registered Pharmacist license/registration in good standing from the State of New Jersey
  • Practical familiarity with all operational phases and workflows of a hospital pharmacy environment
  • Successful completion of all hospital and departmental orientation programs is required
  • Previous experience practicing in a hospital pharmacy environment is highly desirable
