Per Diem Physical Therapist – RWJBarnabas Health
At RWJBarnabas Health, Physical Therapists play an essential role in helping patients restore movement, improve function, reduce pain, and return to the activities that matter most. As a member of our rehabilitation team, you will provide comprehensive physical therapy services to patients with orthopedic, sports medicine, and concussion-related conditions in an outpatient setting. This per diem opportunity is located at the JCC in West Orange, a satellite sports medicine clinic of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Working collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members, you will develop individualized treatment plans that promote functional independence, maximize outcomes, and support each patient's rehabilitation goals. A typical day for a Per Diem Physical Therapist may include:
- Conducting comprehensive physical therapy evaluations, re-evaluations, and standardized assessments to identify impairments, functional limitations, and rehabilitation needs.
- Developing and implementing individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that support each patient's functional goals and maximize recovery.
- Providing skilled physical therapy interventions for patients with orthopedic injuries, sports medicine conditions, and concussion-related impairments.
- Collaborating with referring physicians, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, athletic trainers, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Monitoring patient progress, documenting treatment responses, and modifying treatment plans and goals as appropriate in consultation with the referring physician and healthcare team.
- Developing appropriate discharge plans and individualized home exercise programs that promote continued recovery and long-term functional independence.
- Educating patients and caregivers on therapeutic exercises, injury prevention, body mechanics, adaptive equipment, and strategies to safely continue rehabilitation outside of therapy sessions.
- Recommending therapeutic and adaptive equipment as appropriate and providing education on its safe and effective use.
- Completing timely and accurate clinical documentation, including evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, discharge summaries, billing documentation, and other required medical records in accordance with RWJBarnabas Health policies and professional practice standards.
- Accurately documenting therapy services and associated charges in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
- Supervising Physical Therapist Assistants in accordance with New Jersey practice regulations and departmental policies.
- Supervising physical therapy students by providing mentorship, constructive feedback, completing required evaluations, and collaborating with academic coordinators.
- Participating in continuing education, mandatory training, staff meetings, and professional development activities while maintaining clinical competencies.
- Meeting productivity expectations while providing compassionate, patient-centered care and representing RWJBarnabas Health with professionalism and clinical excellence.

To Be Considered:
To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited physical therapy program.
- Licensure: Current and unrestricted New Jersey Physical Therapist license.
- Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR through American Heart Association
- Experience: Two to five years of outpatient orthopedic clinical experience is preferred. Experience treating orthopedic, sports medicine, and concussion populations is highly desirable.
- Preferred Credentials: Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) or Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) certification, or a demonstrated interest in pursuing specialty certification.
- Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of orthopedic and sports medicine evaluation and treatment techniques, evidence-based rehabilitation practices, therapeutic exercise prescription, patient and family education, discharge planning, clinical documentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and outpatient rehabilitation practices.
- Schedule: This is a per diem position based at the JCC Sports Medicine Clinic in West Orange. Candidates must be available to work Monday evenings and two Saturdays per month, with the flexibility to work additional hours based on clinic needs.
