Job Overview

At Trinitas Regional Medical Center, the Perioperative Nurse Educator/Nursing Professional Development Practitioner oversees the perioperative areas.  This position will be an integral part of the leadership team to ensure staff training and regulatory needs are met. It will also require a consultative role in areas that have perioperative services.

As a Perioperative Nurse Educator/Nursing Professional Development Practitioner, a typical day may include:  

  • Providing orientation, in-service training, and continuing education
  • Develops, implements, and validates initial and ongoing competencies
  • Demonstrates effective teaching skills through appropriate instructional methodologies
  • Applies principles of adult learning theory when conducting programs
  • Facilitates professional role development and practice role transitions
  • Educates and mentors nursing staff on quality improvement and evidence-based practice
  • Maintains simulation lab and equipment; provides simulation experiences and encourages use of simulation in educational programs
  • Analyzes issues, trends, and supporting data to determine the learning needs of individuals and departments
  • Represents Nursing Professional Development/NPD specialty in hospital-wide/system-wide committees and councils; disseminates information accordingly
  • Organizes multiple assignments and/or projects simultaneously
  • Visible and accessible to clinical staff
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as delegated within NPD Scope and Standards of Practice
  • Role requires flexibility, adaptability, and independent prioritization of responsibilities
  • 10 - 15% Travel throughout RWJBH sites

To be considered for this Nurse Educator opportunity, at least 3 years periop/OR RN experience in an acute care and/or inpatient setting, including circulating and scrubbing, is required. You must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing, a Bachelor's degree in nursing, and a current American Heart Association BLS certification.

CNOR certification and 2 years of preceptor/charge/leadership experience are strongly preferred. American Heart Association ACLS provider preferred/required within 6 months of hire, specialty nursing certification and/or Nursing Professional Development—Board Certified/NPD-BC are also strongly preferred.

An MSN in Education, Nursing and/or Health Related Field or post-master's certificate in education is also preferred, as is prior patient care experience and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers an onsite Monday through Friday schedule between the hours of 6:30a/7a - 3p, at 37.5 hours weekly, and flexibility to meet department needs on occasional evenings is required. No holidays required.
