The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

As a Patient Care Coordinator supporting the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, you'll help patients and providers navigate every detail of surgical and clinical care. From scheduling imaging and procedures to coordinating insurance authorizations and preparing patients for surgery, you'll keep information moving and help ensure each patient is clinically and financially prepared for their next step.

As a Patient Care Coordinator, a typical day might include the following:

  • Coordinate day-to-day surgical and clinical activities, administrative tasks, scheduling, and patient care needs under the direction of physicians, the Practice Supervisor, and Director of Administration.
  • Schedule imaging, audiology, testing, blood work, operative procedures, and post-operative appointments.
  • Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information and coordinate precertification and preauthorization for imaging, procedures, and surgery.
  • Coordinate operative schedules for supporting physicians, vendors, and specialists and ensure required clinical and business paperwork is completed before surgery.
  • Confirm pre-operative instructions with patients as directed by physicians and help patients prepare for upcoming procedures.
  • Complete SSI disability forms and Letters of Medical Necessity and explain insurance benefits to patients preparing for surgery.
  • Track and forward test results to appropriate providers in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients and providers regarding prescription refill requests and other patient care needs.
  • Process medical record requests and respond to telephone and written inquiries from patients, physician offices, insurance companies, and other partners.
  • Maintain timely communication with physicians, advanced practice providers, patients, hospitals, and insurance companies.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements, applicable regulations, laws, and practice policies.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must have significant knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, practice management software, and web-based software, along with the ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously and prioritize workflow in a fast-paced environment. One year of experience working in a physician group practice is preferred, as is a bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field such as Nursing, Surgical Technology, Athletic Training, Health Informatics, or a related field.
