Therapy Aide – Children's Specialized Hospital, RWJBarnabas Health

At Children's Specialized Hospital, part of RWJBarnabas Health, Therapy Aides become part of a collaborative, family-centered environment where compassion, teamwork, and quality care come together to support children and families throughout their rehabilitation journey. This Therapy Aide role offers an opportunity to work closely with therapists and other clinical team members while helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pediatric patients. As a Therapy Aide, you will provide hands-on and operational support to clinical staff, assist with therapeutic activities under the direct supervision of clinicians, help prepare and maintain treatment spaces and equipment, and contribute to the smooth daily operation of the therapy department. A typical day for a Therapy Aide may include:

  • Assisting with patient care activities, as appropriate, under the direct supervision of a clinician, including activities of daily living, patient transport, pool activities, exercise programs, and patient transfers
  • Preparing, setting up, and cleaning up therapy treatment areas and therapeutic activities before and after patient sessions
  • Cleaning mats, therapy equipment, toys, and treatment surfaces using hospital-approved disinfectants in accordance with infection control policies and procedures
  • Maintaining clean and organized therapy spaces, including the waiting area, ADL kitchen, gym, breakout rooms, and treatment areas
  • Helping maintain a safe environment for patients, families, clinicians, volunteers, and other staff
  • Monitoring inventory of general supplies and equipment and communicating supply needs to appropriate staff
  • Ordering supplies and equipment and following up to ensure items are received in a timely manner
  • Maintaining required temperature logs and monitoring therapy equipment inspections as indicated
  • Providing additional support to clinical staff with tasks such as pantry ordering, hand-washing monitoring, maintaining the MSDS/SDS book, photocopying, voicemail support, volunteer orientation, and data collection and entry
  • Assisting with the orientation, supervision, or training of volunteers assigned to the site as appropriate
  • Supporting therapists and other hospital personnel with additional duties as needed to help ensure efficient daily operations
  • Completing other duties as assigned while maintaining a patient-centered, professional, and team-oriented approach

  • You are comfortable balancing patient support, equipment and treatment-area preparation, and administrative responsibilities throughout the day
  • You demonstrate emotional maturity, patience, professionalism, and sensitivity when working with children and their families
  • You have the physical stamina to remain active throughout the day, including standing, walking, lifting, pulling, transporting materials and equipment, and assisting with patient transfers
  • You are comfortable working in a dynamic outpatient therapy environment that may include a gym, pool, casting area, and other treatment spaces

To Be Considered:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Certification: BLS Provider Certification through American Heart Association required
  • Experience: Candidates should have experience working with children. Experience working with children with special needs is preferred
  • Skills: Excellent customer service and communication skills, the ability to take and follow directions, basic computer knowledge, physical stamina, and emotional maturity are important for success in this role. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, organized, and comfortable working closely with therapists and other clinical staff to support high-quality pediatric rehabilitation services

Schedule: Part-time schedule (30 hours/week). This position requires commitment to the same weekly schedule, with afternoon hours required
