The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
A typical day for an Assistant Director of Respiratory Care may include:
- Providing direct leadership, supervision, and support to Respiratory Care staff to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with department and hospital policies.
- Coordinating daily respiratory care services and staffing to meet patient care demands and maintain appropriate therapist-to-patient ratios.
- Responding to clinical emergencies, in-house alerts, and staff requests for assistance.
- Performing respiratory care procedures, including intubations and extubations, and assisting physicians with arterial line placement as needed.
- Monitoring staff performance, competencies, clinical practices, and adherence to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Collaborating with nursing leadership, physicians, and other departments to promote effective patient care and strong interdepartmental relationships.
- Supporting employee orientation, education, competency assessments, performance evaluations, and professional development.
- Assisting with department quality improvement initiatives, clinical programs, and performance improvement activities.
- Monitoring departmental resources, staffing, and budgetary needs while assisting with monthly variance reporting.
- Assisting the Respiratory Director with department goals, projects, policies, procedures, and operational initiatives.

- You are organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a sense of urgency.
To be considered for this Assistant Director of Respiratory Care opportunity:
- Graduate of an NBRC-approved school for Respiratory Care.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the NBRC.
- Current New Jersey State Board of Respiratory Care license.
- Associate degree in Respiratory Care required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of advanced respiratory care practitioner experience.
- Primary experience with adult and/or neonatal ventilator management and acute respiratory care medicine required.
- Previous experience with shift coordination, supervision, staff instruction, or leadership required.
- Successful completion of all required orientation programs.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Intubation certification required.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, counseling, coaching, and direction to Respiratory Care staff.
- Ability to monitor and maintain staff competencies across hospital areas and age-specific patient populations.
- Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
