The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Summary of Job Function:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Surgical Services provides comprehensive perioperative care for patients across multiple surgical specialties, including general surgery, renal transplant, and other surgical services. Working collaboratively with attending surgeons and the multidisciplinary team, the APP delivers high-quality clinical care throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative continuum while promoting patient safety, efficient care coordination, and positive clinical outcomes.

Education:

  • Masters' degree from an accredited program for Physician Assistant from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program.
  • Exception to Masters’ degree is PA granted under BS degree standard. 
  • New Jersey PA license required. 

Experience:

  • Three to five years PA surgical experience required

Certification(s):

  • NCCPA certification required
  • Prescription Authority and DEA eligibility required
  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred 

Job-Specific Requirements of Position:

  1. Perform comprehensive pre-operative, post-operative, and admission assessments, including histories, physical examinations, and documentation.
  2. Assist surgeons during operative procedures and perform delegated surgical procedures within scope of practice.
  3. Manage post-operative patient care, including daily rounds, treatment planning, wound care, and patient monitoring.
  4. Evaluate changes in patient condition, initiate appropriate interventions, and respond to clinical emergencies.
  5. Order, interpret, and coordinate diagnostic testing and therapeutic interventions as delegated.
  6. Prescribe medications and perform clinical procedures consistent with licensure and institutional policies.
  7. Coordinate patient care, discharge planning, and transitions of care with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
  8. Provide consultations throughout the hospital, including the emergency department, inpatient units, and perioperative areas.
  9. Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery, discharge instructions, and health maintenance.
  10. Support the education and mentorship of residents, physician assistant students, and other learners.
  11. Maintain accurate clinical documentation while promoting quality, patient safety, evidence-based practice, and regulatory compliance.
  12.  May perform other duties as assigned or directed by management.
