Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – RWJBarnabas Health

A typical day for a Certified Medical Assistant may include:
- Schedule testing in or out of office
- Takes patients brief history and vital signs
- Call in patients' prescriptions to pharmacies
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment
- Assists with both front office and back office duties
- Answers phones and schedules patient appointments
- Assists physicians with patient treatment and minor surgeries
- Call patients or other physicians with results of exams and tests
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Maintain drug cabinet, patient files, records and other information
- Maintain inventory of medical and pharmaceutical supplies, order and stock as needed
- Telephone patient follows-up on their condition after an office visit as per the physician's instructions
- Greets patients, updates demographics, verifies insurance, and collects payments as necessary
- Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain authorizations for procedures and pharmaceuticals
- Performs routine medical testing, i,e, blood testing, ekgs, urinalysis, rapid strep tests and drug screening, injections and vaccinations
- Handles patient's requests for medical information, copies of medical records, refills, test results, etc, as instructed by the physician with signature. Obtains patient release forms in accordance with patient confidentiality and medical record release policies

- This position offers a consistent day shift Monday through Friday schedule, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining a work-life balance.
- You must hold a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA) and a current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- A minimum of 6 months CMA experience is required and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, Epic, knowledge is preferred. Bilingual English-Spanish is preferred.
