Assistant Director of Community Engagement and Recovery Advocacy – RWJBarnabas Health

At the Institute for Prevention and Recovery (IFPR), the Assistant Director of Community Engagement and Recovery Advocacy becomes part of a purpose-driven team serving as a key link between our organization, the community we serve, and the wider healthcare sector. As Assistant Director, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our hospital and substance-use treatment provider relationships, fostering staff morale, and ensuring that our commitment to the tenets of substance-use recovery is maintained at all times. You will establish strong partnerships with healthcare and substance-use treatment providers, develop comprehensive strategies to engage the community, and promote advocacy for individuals with substance-use disorders, coordinating collaborative projects that advance effective, compassionate, patient-centered care. You will also ensure that IFPR staff members uphold the main tenets of person-first, patient-centered substance-use recovery by providing the training and resources they need to deliver quality care aligned with these principles. A typical day for an Assistant Director of Community Engagement and Recovery Advocacy may include:

• Maintaining and fostering internal and external hospital, community, and substance-use treatment provider relationships
  • Maintaining strong relationships with community-based partners, including other recovery support organizations and supportive services, to meet the SDOH needs of our patients
  • Developing and establishing outreach, engagement, and community relation initiatives to promote partnerships with community service programs
• Supervising system-level programs and services
  • SBIRT, Ambulatory Recovery Support Services, integrated care initiatives, and substance-use-focused employee health
  • Developing a streamlined referral system for BHMG providers to integrate recovery support services into primary care settings
• Providing managerial and administrative support and coaching to all assigned staff
• Maintaining and fostering compliance with all recovery tenets and best practices
  • Coordinating and overseeing staff training and coaching initiatives to ensure all team members have a thorough understanding of and commitment to the principles and best practices of substance-use recovery
  • Overseeing strategies to boost staff morale and promote a positive working environment
  • Implementing team-building activities, professional development opportunities, and recognition programs to acknowledge staff efforts in substance-use recovery
• Performing other duties as assigned
