Pharmacy Technician – RWJBarnabas Health
At RWJBarnabas Health, the Pharmacy Technician plays an important role in supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmaceutical services. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician performs the technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing medications and pharmaceutical products. This role supports the medication needs of patients across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
A typical day for a Pharmacy Technician may include:
- Fills unit dose and IV medication orders accurately and promptly according to established pharmacy procedures
- Keeps up with new medication orders and changing workflow demands while responding effectively to daily workload priorities
- Performs assigned pharmacy duties, including logs, inspections, medication filling, deliveries, restocking, and related operational tasks, in a timely manner
- Completes required documentation and maintains accurate records of assigned activities, including IV-related documentation, logs, scanning preparation, and other departmental records
- Delivers medications promptly according to assignment or at the request of the Registered Pharmacist
- Accurately refills and loads Pyxis medication dispensing systems according to established procedures
- Answers department phones promptly and professionally while providing appropriate phone etiquette and service
- Uses downtime efficiently to support pharmacy operations, including preparing for the following day, cleaning, unit-dosing, restocking, and other assigned activities
- Follows strict sterile and non-sterile compounding requirements and established safety procedures, when applicable
- Performs accurate medication dose calculations and maintains careful attention to detail throughout medication preparation and distribution
- Maintains a clean, neat, and uncluttered work area to support prompt, safe, and efficient pharmaceutical services
- Identifies and reports hazardous environmental conditions, safety concerns, and medical errors to the appropriate personnel
- Demonstrates flexibility in assigned duties and scheduling to support changing departmental needs
- Assists with training, coaching, and developing new staff members while contributing to a collaborative team environment

To be considered for this Pharmacy Technician opportunity:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Current New Jersey Board of Pharmacy registration in good standing required
- Proficiency in regulatory requirements and compliance with established hospital policies required
- PTCB certification preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous pharmacy experience preferred
- Candidates must be able to perform the technical, clerical, and manipulative functions required to support pharmaceutical services
- Candidates must be able to work under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist
- Ability to support the medication needs of adult and geriatric patient populations
- Ability to perform accurate dose calculations and follow sterile and non-sterile compounding requirements, when applicable
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records as required by the department
- Ability to adapt to changing workloads, assignments, and departmental needs
