At Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, the Baylor RN assumes Charge Nurse functions as delegated by the Nurse Manager, including assessing staffing needs, organizing and delegating work assignments based on patient acuity and individual staff skill levels. As a Baylor Registered Nurse, a typical day might include:
- Comply with unit and departmental scheduling guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to make effective nursing judgments including handling of crisis/emergency situations.
- Demonstrates positive guest relations by introducing self to patients and family. Provides privacy and confidentiality and exhibits tact and compassion at all times regardless of circumstances.
- Demonstrates understanding of/states blood administrative hospital procedure. Complies with blood and blood product administration policy.
- Evaluates effectiveness, interventions and revises plan of care accordingly.
- Implements the policies of the hospital and Nursing Department.
- Performs proper hand hygiene procedure as per policy, “clean in” and “clean out”.
- Provides privacy and confidentiality and exhibits tact and compassion at all times regardless of circumstances. Discusses availability of Patient Representative services, if applicable
- Recognizes signs and symptoms of complication of Pain Management Therapies and intervenes appropriately: a) PCA b) Narcotic infusions c) Epidural d) block
- Set goals and formulates appropriate multidisciplinary interventions to meet these goals.
- States proper mechanism for activating cardiac respiratory arrest. Demonstrates understanding of code cart check and procedure for replacing items on code cart.
- Transmits pertinent patient information to appropriate individuals (i.e., MD, supervisor, charge nurse, etc.)
- Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.
- Utilizes the nursing process with a multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of patient care.
- Performs assessment and reassessment of patients according to applicable department standards and identified tools.
- Performs a pre-operative initial assessment of patient needs, including biophysical, psychosocial, and environmental. Based on assessment formulates and revises age specific plan of care, nursing interventions and patient outcomes that are consistent with established standards of care and policies and procedures.
- Integrates psychosocial, physical, nutritional and rehabilitation needs of the patient in-patient care and discharge planning.
- Performs interventions in accordance with current policy and procedure, safety guidelines and infection control principles.
- Provides patient/family education according to the plan of care and documents same.
- Delegates and prioritizes work assignments according to the individual associate's competence and patient care needs.
- Complies with restraint policy. Documents as per policy.
- Uses an understanding of the principles of acute and chronic pain management to assess each patient’s individual needs and provide appropriate and specific treatment and care.
- Maintains complete, accurate, concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions and patient responses within tour of duty.
- Performs and documents accurate/appropriate physical assessments as indicated by patient condition.
- Provides appropriate pre and post op care and education to patients and families as per established standards of care, policies and procedures.
- Provides appropriate wound management and care and documents based upon established policies and procedures.
- Initiates or participates in performance improvement activities for the patient or department
- Maintains IV sites and monitors IV fluids. Provides IV care and documents using established policies and procedures.
- Complies with Medication Reconciliation policy
- Demonstrates proper procedure for Foley Cath use including assembly of required equipment, proper insertion and completion of chart notes.
- Transcribes MD orders accurately and administers medication in a safe and accurate manner, demonstrating knowledge of action and potential side effects.

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing; Hold a current American Heart Association BLS certification. A bachelor’s degree in nursing is strongly preferred.
