Job Overview:

The Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (Flight Medic) provides advanced life support to sick, disabled, or injured individuals based on their signs, symptoms, or complaints. Care may be provided prior to hospitalization or while transporting individuals between healthcare facilities. The standard of care is limited to the knowledge, skills, and techniques within the New Jersey Paramedic scope of practice and in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and RWJBH Mobile Health policies.

As a Flight Medic, a typical day might include the following:

  • Conducts themselves in a professional, dignified, and compassionate manner at all times.
  • Communicates clearly, effectively, and professionally in both written and verbal communication.
  • Notifies the Supervisor of any deficiencies related to maintenance, equipment, or supplies.
  • Immediately notifies the Supervisor of any unusual circumstances.
  • Provides treatment in accordance with established patient care protocols, including departmental Standing Orders, Radio Failure Protocols, Triage to BLS Guidelines, and Termination of Resuscitative Efforts.
  • Operates department vehicles in accordance with all applicable New Jersey Motor Vehicle Laws and Mobile Health driving policies.
  • Completes department-specific continuing education and training programs in addition to those required by the New Jersey Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services.
  • Performs routine duties necessary to maintain personal safety and support the delivery of patient care. This includes completing vehicle inspection forms and maintenance requests, submitting required certifications prior to expiration, maintaining compliance with Employee Health requirements such as TB testing and N95 fit testing, and completing required hospital processes, including annual employee self-evaluations and employee engagement surveys.
  • Completes all patient care documentation in accordance with Mobile Health documentation procedures.
  • Interacts professionally with partners, patients, management, colleagues from other EMS agencies, public safety personnel, healthcare providers, and members of the public.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested by Mobile Health management and as necessary to support the organization's operations.

Job Qualifications/Education/Training/Certification/Licensure:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Current driver's license and ability to meet the requirements of the organization's vehicle insurance provider.
  • Current New Jersey Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP) certification required; National Registry Paramedic certification preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
  • Current American Heart Association Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification preferred.
  • FP-C certification preferred; must obtain within one year of hire if not already certified.
  • Five years of pre-hospital ALS experience required.
  • One year of recent flight medic experience preferred.
  • Completion of ICS 100, ICS 200, NIMS 700, and NIMS 800 required.
  • Completion of Hazardous Materials Awareness training required.
  • Completion of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) or CBRNE Awareness training required.
