Medical Assistant (MA) – RWJBarnabas Health

A typical day for a Medical Assistant may include:
- Assists the clinical staff in providing technical aspects of patient care under the direction of the clinical team
- Assists the clinical and administrative staff in clerical functions in support of patient care
- Performs specimen collection, including but not limited to blood, urine, stool etc
- Assures timely and efficient patient flow throughout the Cancer Center, while monitoring the wait time in the reception area, lab, sub-waiting and examination rooms
- Promptly escalate appropriate personnel for unexplained delays
- Demonstrates effective communication skills with staff, providers, visitors, patients and family verbally and through documentation in patient medical record
- Orders office and clinical supplies in a timely manner. Ensuring that department is appropriately stocked. Verbalizes and demonstrates an understanding of department par-levels
- Maintains a clean, neat, well stocked and safe working area in all patient care areas
- Interacts professionally with all staff, patients and family members while paying attention to the age-specific needs of the patient
- Meets patient and family expectations while consistently striving for customer satisfaction by adhering to the Employee Code of Conduct
- Organizes work and meets deadlines in high-volume practice while demonstrating a positive, professional manner
- Transports medication to and from pharmacy
- Transports labs, urine samples, etc to the main hospital lab
- Proficiently demonstrates and consistently performs all techniques and skills in the following:
- Receives patients from waiting areas
- Accurately performs proper patient identification
- Obtains the patient's vital signs, height and weight, and communicates abnormal findings to appropriate clinical staff in a timely manner
- Assists patients in examination room with gowning and assists clinical staff with patient care during procedures
- Reviews patient medication list
- Obtain patient pain levels and escalation to nursing or provider
- Performs all other duties as assigned

- This position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 8:30am - 4:30pm, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining a work-life balance.
- You must hold a HS diploma/GED and current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA) is preferred.
- Phlebotomy skills and experience are required. A minimum of 6 months MA experience and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, Epic, knowledge is preferred.
