From performing clinical triage and administering immunizations to providing patient education and coordinating services, you'll help ensure safe, timely, and individualized care. Working closely with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and families, you'll contribute to a patient-centered medical home environment that promotes continuity of care, positive patient experiences, and improved health outcomes.

As a Pediatric Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

  • Assessing patient symptoms, determining urgency of care, and recognizing emergent conditions requiring provider intervention or escalation to emergency services

  • Obtaining and documenting patient histories, clinical assessments, and nursing recommendations using SBAR communication and the EPIC electronic medical record

  • Providing evidence-based nursing guidance, patient education, and clinical recommendations within the RN scope of practice

  • Coordinating same-day, urgent, and follow-up appointments based on patient needs, clinical assessments, and provider recommendations

  • Supporting pediatric primary care and behavioral health patients by assessing concerns, identifying potential crises, and following appropriate escalation procedures

  • Administering immunizations in accordance with physician orders, CDC guidelines, and organizational policies while educating families on vaccine benefits, risks, and aftercare

  • Administering prescribed medications, monitoring for adverse reactions, and maintaining accurate medication reconciliation and clinical documentation

  • Assisting with medication refill requests, prior authorizations, and pharmacy coordination to support continuity of care

  • Performing and overseeing point-of-care testing, including specimen collection, test administration, quality control, and documentation in accordance with regulatory standards

  • Performing office-based nursing procedures while maintaining infection prevention, patient safety, and clinical quality standards

  • Collaborating with physicians, nurses, behavioral health professionals, and interdisciplinary partners to coordinate care for children with complex medical and developmental needs

This role might be for you if:

  • You are passionate about pediatric nursing and enjoy supporting children with diverse medical, developmental, and behavioral healthcare needs

  • You are comfortable providing nursing care in an ambulatory or primary care practice environment

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills allow you to evaluate patient symptoms and determine appropriate next steps

  • You enjoy providing telephonic and in-person triage while helping families navigate healthcare concerns with confidence

  • You are comfortable administering immunizations, medications, and point-of-care testing while maintaining high standards of patient safety

  • You understand the importance of recognizing urgent medical or behavioral health concerns and escalating appropriately

  • You communicate clearly and compassionately with children, parents, caregivers, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals

  • You enjoy educating patients and families about preventive care, treatment plans, medications, and ongoing health management

  • You are organized, adaptable, and comfortable balancing multiple clinical responsibilities in a busy pediatric practice

  • You value accurate documentation, evidence-based nursing practice, and collaboration within a patient-centered medical home model

  • You bring patience, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a family-centered approach to caring for children with complex healthcare needs

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong pediatric nursing assessment, clinical triage, medication and vaccine administration, point-of-care testing, patient education, and care coordination skills.
